Inboxes docs
Everything you need to connect Mailgun and run a real inbox — domains, mailboxes, webhooks, and day-to-day mail.
Quick start
- Sign up at app.inboxes.pro/signup
- Verify your email (dev mode shows a preview link if SMTP is not configured)
- Connect Mailgun or Resend with an API key (you can add both)
- Add a mailbox like
hello@your-domain.com - Install webhooks so inbound mail and delivery events sync
Account & verification
Create an account from the Inboxes app. After signup you land on the verification screen. Use Resend verification if you did not get a link.
- Forgot password → /forgot-password
- Sessions & security → Settings → Sessions inside the app
Connect Mailgun
Open Settings → Providers → Mailgun → Manage (or complete onboarding).
- Use a Mailgun Private API key (not the public key)
- Pick the region that matches your Mailgun account (US / EU)
- Select a verified sending domain from your Mailgun account
Connect Resend
Open Settings → Email providers → Resend → Connect (or pick Resend during onboarding).
- Create a key under Resend → API Keys with permission Full access and domain All domains. A sending-only key cannot list domains or read received mail.
- Select a verified domain. Resend regions are per domain, no region picker needed.
- Click Install webhooks. Inboxes creates one Resend webhook for delivery events and
email.received. - To receive mail: in Resend open Domains → your domain, turn on Receiving, and add the MX record it shows at your DNS provider (lowest priority on the domain). Every address on the domain is then received, no per-mailbox routes.
- Back in Inboxes click Re-check. The checklist turns green once the MX record is verified.
Domains & mailboxes
On the $5 / month plan you can add as many domains and addresses as your Mailgun or Resend account allows, across both providers.
- Sidebar Mailboxes → + opens add-mailbox
- Example:
hello@mail.example.comandsupport@mail.example.com - Click a mailbox to make it active (compose From + inbox scope)
- Manage Mailgun opens provider settings
Webhooks & ngrok (local)
Inbound mail and delivery events need a publicly reachable API URL. Locally, run ngrok (or similar) against the API port (default 4000) and set PUBLIC_API_URL in your .env.
ngrok http 4000 # then set PUBLIC_API_URL=https://your-subdomain.ngrok-free.dev
In Mailgun settings, use Enable Mailgun webhooks after adding a new mailbox so routes match the new address.
Using the inbox
- Three-pane layout: list + reading pane
- Compose with From mailbox, Cc/Bcc, drafts, schedule, undo send
- Drag messages to folders or labels; multi-select bulk actions
- Delivery intelligence on sent/received messages
- Dark / light theme from the header
Search operators
Try operators in the search box:
| Operator | Example |
|---|---|
from: | from:sarah@company.com |
to: | to:support@… |
has:attachment | invoice has:attachment |
before: / after: | after:2026-01-01 |
Billing
Public pricing is a single plan: $5 / month with unlimited Mailgun domains and mailboxes (within Mailgun limits). After you create an account, subscribe in the app via Paddle before connecting Mailgun.
Subscription fees are non-refundable. You can cancel anytime; access continues until the end of the paid period. See Refund Policy, Terms, and Pricing.
Troubleshooting
- No inbound mail — confirm webhooks,
PUBLIC_API_URL, and Mailgun routes for the active address - Cannot send — domain SPF/DKIM must be valid in Mailgun; check onboarding / verify connection
- Wrong From address — switch mailbox in the sidebar or compose From dropdown
- Still stuck? Contact support
